This week we’re went a little crazy and talked about some indirectly-related-to-gamer-culture topics. The big Viacom Ninjas vs. Google Pirates lawsuit! Some discussion inspired by GDC discussion about user-generated content! And, of course the trinary holiday - Steak and BJ day, Pi Day, White day. We go off on some semi-rants about the future of user-created content, both related to the big lawsuit, and to games with large amounts of user-created create. Hollywood manufactures stuff to be consumed, where the internet creates things for the sake of creating things, and people enjoy it randomly.

The quote of the evening:

Hollywood is a restaraunt where you get peed on.

FOOD FOR THE MIND, FOOD FOR THE BODY, BJS FOR THE SOUL, only on EndgameRadio Prime.

I’m glad to see someone agrees with me about the failures of GDC as a whole to properly see “what’s up”. And that someone is Joi Ito, who presented a good monologue about what we’re missing with all this CliffyBism. Yes, I have made that a word.

The Game Developer’s Choice awards happened last night with mostly predictable results.

I’m very happy about the IGF selections, but I would probably have been pretty happy regardless of the choice as they are all quite amazing games. Special gratz out to Tom Fulp for bagging the Excellence in Visual Arts and the Audience awards for Castle Crashers.

However, I don’t feel the same love and reverie for the GDC awards. Don’t get me wrong, the nominees are all good games, and this award ceremony still holds far more of my respect than all the Spike TV awards in the world combined. Just this once, though, it feels that the forward thinking world of video game developers and press are lagging behind the mainstream now by what feels like at least a year plus.

Lots and Lots of GDC news, as well as lots and lots of news that’s buzzing around because of GDC. Sony has announced their new and exciting PS3 online environment titled “Home,” and dare I say it, it looks sexy as hell. Compare and contrast this to the newly-announced Lego MMO, (being put out by the people that make AutoAssault!) We estimate the time-until-cock in a lego-building environment. A cool game mechanic in the now-interesting Shadowrun FPS creates symbiotic relationships between players. We chat a bit about this concept, like slaves in Zangamarsh in WoW, The Gathering, a Quake mod, some games in Sims Online.
